She is the Uveitis Service Lead at the University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists in London.
Ms Abdalla has completed specialist fellowship training in medical retina, diabetic eye disease, age-related macular degeneration and ocular inflammation, gaining expertise in retinal and macular laser, intravitreal injections, immune-modulation therapy and complex cataract surgery. Her colleagues refer patients with ocular inflammatory disease for her to manage with her team. Her management of these conditions is not only sight saving, but also lifesaving in some cases.
Between 2012 and 2014, Ms Abdalla completed specialist clinical and research fellowship training with Professor Andrew Lottery, gaining training in hereditary eye disorders and complex retinal disease at the University Hospitals Southampton. Subsequently, she has held various senior positions across multiple NHS Trusts, earning her Certificate of Completion of Training in Ophthalmology from the General Medical Council. She has engaged in several clinical research studies and was involved in several local and international multi-centre clinical trials. She regularly presents at national and international conferences, and has published several manuscripts in highly regarded peer-reviewed journals.
Ms Abdalla has a keen interest in medical education and professional training. As a trainee ophthalmologist, she served as the Ophthalmic Training Group Representative with the Royal College of Ophthalmologists and the Surgical Training Committee Representative for the East Midlands Deanery. As a consultant, she currently serves as the Royal College Tutor for the Royal Derby Hospital, supervising the training of ophthalmology registrars at the Trust.
